In 1552, the King Gustav Vasa married on the Catherine Stenbock, in the church of Vadstena Abbey, and the wedding party was then held at the castle. One of the castle banqueting halls is called The Wedding Hall. The castle has been very well preserved, and is one best examples of Renaissance architecture of Sweden.
