In 1782, Rutger Macklean inherited the castle, after which he carried out extensive reforms of agriculture in the neighborhood. One of the biggest attractions in Svaneholm Castle is the Macklean Room, which was built immediately when Rutger Macklean had moved into the castle in 1782. In the Macklean Room there is an exhibition about Rutger Macklean's life and work. At the castle there is an exhibition about the ghosts that some believe to visit the castle, many have had experiences that they regarded as ghostly.
