The museum has a prehistory in royal Swedish coin collections, where the oldest known dates back to the 16th century. Around 1572, the chancellor Rasmus Ludvigsson gathered in older Swedish coins. In 1630, the King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden handed over older coins to the collection of the museum. During the Thirty Years' War was a lot of coins and medals on Swedish exchange, what included in the Royal Collection of the Museum.
