The first cathedral known to us was inaugurated around 1150, but recent discoveries prove the existence of a church on this place as early as the 11th century. Skara Cathedral contains rich art treasures, including altarpiece from the 1000s and older church textiles, and a precious grave monument in black marble and white alabaster of the knight and colonel Erik Soop as the tomb with Mars and Minerva.
